For the broader topic, read LLQP Ontario. You can also browse the Ontario resources hub.
Every approved LLQP provider covers the required curriculum, but the learning experience, support, access period, practice tools and total price can differ significantly. The best provider is the one that helps you understand the material and reach certification without hidden assumptions.
This guide is part of the Licensed Path resource library. For the complete overview, read LLQP Ontario Guide.
Start with the official approved list
Use FSRA’s current LLQP page rather than relying on an organization’s logo or an old article. Approval status can change.
A recruiter may recommend a particular provider because of a group arrangement, but candidates should still understand what is included and whether course access is tied to joining that organization.
Compare the full-life package
Confirm that the program matches the licence you intend to pursue. A full life and accident and sickness path requires all four modules, while an accident and sickness-only route is narrower.
Ask whether the quoted price includes all learning modules, provider certification exams, electronic books, practice questions, instructor support and applicable tax.
Learning format
- Self-paced text: Useful for strong independent readers who want control over schedule.
- Recorded video: Helpful when explanations make dense concepts easier, but passive watching is not enough.
- Live virtual classes: Provide structure and questions, although fixed times may conflict with work.
- In-person instruction: Can support accountability and direct discussion where available.
- Hybrid support: Combines independent material with tutoring or review sessions.
Practice-question quality
Ask whether questions are updated, scenario-based and accompanied by explanations. A large bank is not automatically better if it encourages memorization.
The provider cannot guarantee provincial questions or results. Be cautious when marketing suggests exact exam duplication or effortless passing.
Certification and retake policies
- Provider pass mark: Know the required score for each course exam.
- Number of attempts: Ask whether retakes are included or charged.
- Waiting periods: Provider rules can be separate from provincial rewrite policy.
- Access expiry: Know how long lessons and practice tools remain available.
- Re-certification: Understand what happens if CIPR eligibility expires before the provincial exams.
Instructor and technical support
Test support before buying. Is there a phone number, email response standard, live tutor or only automated help? Can instructors explain why an answer is wrong?
Also confirm whether the platform works on your device and whether progress, notes and quizzes are preserved.
Price and hidden cost comparison
Build a table showing tuition, tax, textbooks, exam retakes, access extensions, shipping, tutoring and refund terms. A lower starting price can become higher after add-ons.
Course tuition is separate from Durham provincial exam fees, FSRA licensing, the background check and E&O insurance.
Independence from the sponsoring organization
Some organizations provide or subsidize a particular course. Ask whether payment creates an obligation to contract, recruit, attend meetings or reimburse costs if you leave.
A course decision and a sponsorship decision are related but should not be treated as the same decision. Review how to find an LLQP sponsor separately.
Questions to ask a provider
- Are you currently approved for Ontario LLQP education?: Verify through FSRA.
- What exactly does the total price include?: Request written details.
- How long is access active?: Include extensions and reactivation.
- What support is available for difficult concepts?: Ask for response times.
- How does certification reach CIPR?: Understand processing after the final course exam.
- What is the refund policy?: Review it before logging in or opening materials.
Make the decision based on your learning behaviour
A disciplined reader may prefer a straightforward self-paced provider. A candidate who repeatedly postpones study may benefit from scheduled classes. Someone new to finance may value instructor explanations more than a large question bank.
Choose the structure you will actually use, not the package with the loudest pass claim.
Frequently asked questions
Does FSRA recommend one provider?
FSRA publishes an approved list but does not rank providers for individual candidates.
Can a sponsor require a specific provider?
An organization may have its own onboarding arrangement. Ask whether it is truly mandatory, why, and whether you can use another approved provider.
Should I compare provider pass rates?
Pass-rate data can offer context but may reflect different student populations and support models. It should not replace a review of curriculum access and learning fit.
