Durham College administers Ontario’s provincial LLQP examinations and charges an examination fee for each registration request. Course tuition, licensing and insurance costs are separate.

Current Ontario provincial examination fees
As of July 2026, Durham College lists Ontario LLQP fees of $68 for a paper exam registration and $85 for an online exam registration. Durham states that the fee is payable with each registration request and is subject to change.
Confirm the amount shown in the registration portal before paying. The exam website and FSRA are more reliable than an old blog or screenshot.
The four modules for a full-life candidate
- Life Insurance: 35 scored questions and 75 minutes under the current format.
- Accident and Sickness Insurance: 35 scored questions and 75 minutes.
- Segregated Funds and Annuities: 35 scored questions and 75 minutes.
- Ethics and Professional Practice - Common Law: 25 scored questions and 75 minutes.
How the total is calculated
The registration portal controls the actual amount and grouping. Do not multiply a posted fee by four and assume that is always the checkout total without verifying the current booking process.
If modules are booked separately, changed or rewritten, additional registration charges may apply. Build a budget with a buffer rather than only the minimum possible amount.
Rewrite costs
A failed module generally requires another paid registration. Under the current Ontario rewrite policy, a candidate may take supplemental attempts after a 24-hour wait. A failed fourth overall attempt on the same module triggers a one-year waiting period and the need to re-establish prerequisite-course eligibility.
The financial cost of rushing includes not only the exam fee but also possible course extension, re-certification and delayed licensing.
No-show, cancellation and identification risk
Durham’s current information states that booked exams are non-refundable and that fees may be forfeited when a candidate misses the session, arrives late, lacks acceptable identification or violates conduct rules.
Review the confirmation carefully. Ensure your legal name matches CIPR and government photo identification exactly.
Course cost is separate
Durham does not provide the LLQP course. Approved course providers set their own tuition, access periods, retake policies and support packages.
When comparing prices, ask whether all full-life modules, certification examinations, learning materials, practice questions and access extensions are included.
Other licensing costs to remember
- FSRA application: Currently $170 for the initial two-year life and accident and sickness licence.
- Criminal-record check: FSRA currently lists a $19.15 vendor fee through the official application process.
- E&O insurance: May be included under a sponsor’s group policy or charged separately.
- Organization charges: Technology, administration, training or contracting fees are not automatically regulator-required.
- Business setup: Independent agents may need bookkeeping, tax and marketing systems.
How to reduce avoidable cost
- Book only when ready: Use fresh timed tests and a weakness log.
- Verify exam format: Choose online or in-person based on your environment and technical reliability.
- Protect the appointment: Block travel time, test equipment and prepare identification.
- Understand provider expiry rules: Do not let certification lapse before your planned exam date.
- Arrange sponsorship early: Avoid passing the first module and then losing months searching without a plan.
Frequently asked questions

Are fees refundable?
Durham’s current information says booked exams are not refundable. Review the latest cancellation and rescheduling rules before registration.
Does my sponsor pay the exam fees?
