For the broader topic, read LLQP Ontario. You can also browse the Ontario resources hub.

A four-week LLQP plan is intensive. It works best for a candidate who can protect roughly 20 to 25 study hours per week, has reliable course access and is willing to delay the provincial examinations if readiness benchmarks are not met.

This guide is part of the Licensed Path resource library. For the complete overview, read LLQP Ontario Guide.

Before day one

  • Confirm the provider: Verify that it appears on FSRA’s approved list and that the package covers the intended licence type.
  • Set up the study environment: Use a quiet space, calendar blocks and one place for notes and error tracking.
  • Download or organize reference materials: Learn the chapter structure from the beginning.
  • Create an error log: Record topic, reason for error, corrected rule and review date.
  • Identify exam constraints: Do not book dates based only on motivation; understand provider certification and Durham availability.

Week 1: Life Insurance foundation

Study policy types, parties to the contract, beneficiaries, ownership, premiums, underwriting, taxation basics, needs analysis and business uses. Complete short retrieval sessions every day.

At the end of the week, answer a fresh timed set. Review every uncertain answer, including correct guesses. Do not move on with major confusion around term, whole life, universal life, taxation and beneficiary concepts.

Week 2: Accident and Sickness plus retention

Cover disability income, definitions of disability, elimination and benefit periods, critical illness, health and long-term-care concepts, exclusions and contract coordination.

Continue a 30-minute life-insurance review on at least three days. Spaced review prevents week-one material from disappearing while you learn a new module.

Week 3: Segregated Funds and Annuities

Focus on insurance-contract structure, guarantees, beneficiary designations, creditor-protection conditions, taxation, fees, risk profiles, withdrawals, maturity and annuity income.

This module often requires slow comparison. Build tables that distinguish segregated funds from mutual funds and annuities from accumulation products, but verify every summary against the approved material.

Week 4: Ethics, mixed review and readiness

Study agency law, contracts, privacy, disclosure, conflicts, replacement, professional conduct and fair treatment. Then shift from single-module practice to mixed sets.

Simulate timing. Practise using the reference material without turning the exercise into unlimited research. The goal is to identify the issue, choose an answer and confirm only when necessary.

A sample weekly schedule

  • Monday to Thursday: Two 90-minute learning blocks and one 20-minute recall review.
  • Friday: Light review, glossary work and recovery.
  • Saturday: Three to four hours of mixed questions, reference navigation and error correction.
  • Sunday: Two to three hours of consolidation plus planning for the next module.

Readiness checkpoints before booking

  • Fresh-question performance: Scores should be consistently and comfortably above the pass mark.
  • Time control: You can complete a module simulation without rushing the final questions.
  • Reference navigation: You know where to verify major definitions and rules.
  • Explanation ability: You can teach core concepts in plain language.
  • Emotional readiness: One poor practice set does not cause you to abandon the plan or book impulsively.

What to do when the plan slips

Do not compress two full study days into one exhausted night. Move the target date, reduce the number of modules booked together or extend the plan.

The schedule is a tool, not a promise. The cost of a later exam is often lower than repeated rewrites and a damaged confidence cycle.

After provider certification

Check that your legal name and certification are correct in CIPR. Review Durham’s current identification, registration, cancellation, online technical and conduct requirements.

Also begin sponsorship due diligence. Use the 15 questions to ask an insurance sponsor before agreeing to an organization solely because it helped with the course.

Frequently asked questions

Is four weeks enough for everyone?

No. Prior knowledge, reading speed, work schedule and test performance vary. Extend the plan when the readiness evidence is weak.

Should I book exams before starting?

Early booking can create accountability, but non-refundable policies and unpredictable readiness make premature booking risky.

How many modules should I write in one day?

Choose based on stamina and practice performance. Convenience should not override concentration.
